Last bit of calm before the Christmas storm

The boy is feeling a bit better. Fever down. He's still Captain Whinypants if I try to put him down (or dare to leave the room). And I'll spare you the disgusting details, but let's just say that dairy and phlegm don't mix. Yuck!

Last night we got him to sleep and I was able to wrap his and Laura's gifts while watching the Caps lose in a close overtime shootout. This Christmas is going to be crazy with presents. We are definitely reaping the benefits of having the family's only grandchild. L's father and stepmother sent a HUGE box of wrapped gifts, and we had assumed they'd all be for the boy, but half the box was for L or me. L's sister and her husband are arriving tonight, just in time for Christmas. My parents, grandmother, sister, and nephew are coming for a few days on the 27th. In light of the boy's illness (and him passing it to his parents) we're so fortunate we're not traveling anywhere. L had been toying with the idea of us going to Wilmington, NC to see her dad. An eight hour drive with a sick kid would have been awful!

This has been quite a year. Kid's gone from completely immobile to crawling to walking. He's gone from crying to speaking a few words. He is showing preferences for certain foods. He loves music. He dances. He laughs. We have to research preschools after the start of the new year! Yikes!

Merry whatever holiday you celebrate. However you celebrate it, I hope you have a few moments of happy peace. We all deserve it!
