Check out the big brain on Brad!

Yay! I figured out how to post an animated GIF in Blogger. (Just drag it into the open post. Don't even bother trying to insert a link. So simple!)

God, I love Mad Men. What a freaky moment in last Sunday's episode! Look how the guy second from the right flails his arm and uncovers a white spot on his shirt not covered in blood. Genius!

* * *

I also love the Goodwill near my doctor's office (as I've mentioned before)! I picked up these two awesome things yesterday:

"The true and fascinating story of one of the last traditional gang bosses in Japan." Published in Japan (in English!) in 1989.

A Raymond Chandler book starring hard-boiled detective Philip Marlowe that I haven't read! And yes, if you must ask, I do have books I still need to read. But I plan on reading these too. It's like I'm stockpiling for the apocalypse!

Hey there, Slugger!

Let the dogs out last night and caught sight of this on the stoop:

Slug! But how big is it?

I grabbed a nearby leaf and placed it beside the slug for reference. But then I remembered there is no standard for leaf size, so the second pic doesn't really tell you a damn thing! Need something else...

I ran inside and got a quarter. A-ha! Now you can tell this is a very substantial slug. Slug with a capital S. I felt proud of myself until i turned to the door and saw this:

Two more slugs on the door making a yin-yang thing. Or attempting wall sex. Or something. The point is, I was so fixated on the slug on the stoop, I didn't see the other two on the wall. I would so be one of the first to die in a horror movie. How disappointing. That Facebook quiz was right!

Still less whiny than "New Hope" era Skywalker!

Poor Wil Wheaton, circa 1993. No wonder people hated Wesley. Not only did Wil have to contend with how his character was written on TV, he had to deal with scifi loving comic book readers, who can be even MORE anal and unforgiving than trekkies.

Still... awesome pic, huh? Stolen (with respect) from Siskoid's Blog of Geekery, where he does great reviews of the Trek comics, as well as a weekly ROM, Spaceknight feature!

Wish I had posted this yesterday so I could call it Wesley Wednesday, but I was at the dentist getting a crown and choking on tooth dust!

Here's to Wesley! Proof that society will never find a cure for the awkward teen years!

A simpler, gentler time...

"Boisterous cable gabber Glenn Beck laments the return to normalcy. The website for Beck’s "9/12 Project" waxes nostalgic for the day after the worst terrorist attack in American history, a time when “We were united as Americans, standing together to protect the greatest nation ever created.” Beck’s purpose with the Project? “We want to get everyone thinking like it is September 12th, 2001 again.”

My God: why in the world would anyone want that? Yes, 9/12 brought moving displays of patriotism and a comforting sense of national unity, but that hardly made up for the fear, rage and sorrow that dominated the national mood and at times clouded our vision."

News and an apology

Sorry, poor neglected blog. I'm taking a half-day today and the wife and I are going to see Jimmy Buffett! She got us 13th row tickets for our anniversary! Wooo!

I'll post a few pics on Facebook soon.

I still love you, blog. Twitter is just so damn easy. Twitter's my friend with benefits, but you'll always be my forever girl, blog. Promise!
