This is life... finding those moments of happiness
What a great weekend. We saw a reggae band at an outdoor concert, went to Baltimore to visit the Maryland Science Center, H saw his first IMAX movie (in 3-D, no less!), had a great lunch at a dive bar/pizza place, relaxed on Sunday and had dinner at the home of friends (who also have two boys).
Lots of smiles all weekend.

Sincerity
The oldest is almost four. He is very independent in a lot of ways. He goes to the bathroom, says when he's hungry or tired, and knows what he likes and dislikes. He also likes his friends and is eager to please. We were watching two boys of a friend of ours yesterday evening. One is H's age and one is six. We were going to read all four boys a story before the wife took the other boys home to sleep in their own beds. The other two boys were playing with H's Legos, so he took it upon himself to pick the book to read.
"Is this one cool?" I heard him ask.
"No," the older boy responded.
H returned to the bookcase and tried again.
"Is this one cool, guys?"
"No!" both boys answered.
H looked a little deflated as he returned to the bookcase and I went over to him and said, "Hey, don't worry about it. We'll read the book about cowboys together after they leave, just you and daddy." He smiled.
I looked down at the book he had handed me ... the one he thought might be cool enough for his friends:
And my heart melted. He is almost four, but that means he is also a little three-year-old boy. He still views the world with innocent, wide eyes. He hasn't become jaded and cynical. In his world, "Little Lost Kitten" could just be the cool book that his friends want to hear. Good for him.

Cool
We have an old home, like from 1930. Thus the AC was added at a latter date, possibly by a "do-it-yourselfer" who just kind of winged it. When the temp outside is above 90, the AC just can't keep up. You set it for 68 and come home and it's 72, 73. Sounds minor, but it's not. So we checked Craigslist a few times and someone in the area was offering a 3-year-old Kenmore 8,000 BTU AC for free. With a brand new installation kit!
A neighborhood friend came by after work yesterday to help me install it (I did not have a ton of faith in my ability to do it myself for some reason), and the result? The large main room in our house is now cool and comfortable. Did I mention it was free? Wow!And not a moment too soon, as it's currently 94 degrees, on the way to a high of 97!
